Whoever was editing the background out of the photo misinterpreted the shadows and sliced out a fold of the fabric, based on their best guess of where the material should run - and clearly wasn't familiar with the shape of ladies' garments at the time, which is unsurprising if the editor was a man, as one would expect. Certainly the stitches run into that empty area as one would expect if the fabric continued into the dropped shoulder appropriately. You can see a similar issue with the line of the basque being oddly cut away to match an imagined hip line. <br /><br />The problem with bad "photoshop" runs back to the late 1800s, when it was achieved by scraping or painting the negatives to create white or black space (this is why so many late Victorian portraits look so very bland and homogenous - overediting of the film).Cassiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17754511465326678598noreply@blogger.com
